Biography

George “Ronnie” Gabbert, 67, of Washington, IL passed away at 8:25 p.m. on Monday, October 17, 2005 in his home.

George was born on January 15, 1938 in Beardstown, IL, son of George O. and Alice E. Rohn Gabbert.  They preceded him in death.

He is survived by his daughter, Rhonda Vogel of Washington; sons, Rich and his wife Nikki and Randy and his wife Joanne Gabbert of Washington; six grandchildren; close friend, Johann Robbins of Washington; and brother, Charles “Chuck” and his wife Lorna Gabbert of Peoria.

George retired in 1987, after thirty years of service, as a Brakeman/Conductor for the TP & W and later the Santa Fe Railroads of East Peoria.  He was a member of First Free Methodist Church in Peoria.  George was a member of the NRA and the Early Ford V8 Club.  He enjoyed showing his ’38 Ford Coupe and always felt that he was "Lost in the 50's".  George enjoyed antique cars, horses and motorcycling.  He was a fan of lady basketball - especially the Bradley Lady Braves, the Connecticut Sun of the WNBA, Rebecca Lobo and Carla McGee.  George enjoyed visiting Las Vegas and Florida.  He was always pleasant to strangers and always had a smile to share.

Private family services will be held.  Interment was held at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Peoria American Cancer Society’s Road to Recovery Program.
